Shoreditch Trust commissioned Hatch Events to produce the Shoreditch: Africa '05 festival as part of their two-week Shoreditch Festival that would bring pride to their African residents and create an opportunity for everyone to experience the wondrous variety of African culture. |
Visitors were able to experience an explosion of African culture through live bands, food, market stalls, African dance and drumming workshops, games and African mask making that delighted and surprised them throughout the day. |

A huge part of the event brief was to 'show-off' the local African community. African businesses were promoted through the "African Market", which offered everything from books and clothes to crafts and jewellery, and taste buds were satisfied by mouth watering, finger-licking dishes. |
A stage was produced called "Hackney’s Finest" showcasing some of Hackney's best African bands, dance and drumming troupes, fashion designers and solo artists to fuel the celebrations. |
